'Paheli' (2005)
Experimenting even further from his established wheelhouse, 'Paheli' was an anomaly in Shah Rukh Khan's career. Working with a new art-house director in a movie based on a regional folk story, adopting an accent was all very counter-intuitive to his image. Playing the double role of a meek and mild Rajasthani business man and also an immortal ghost, Khan had to really stretch his skills, which weren't that appreciated by fans. It's one of very few times in his career that Khan had to don a thick accent as well, in a setting that was very rural and unlike anything he's done before and since.
