'Kal Ho Naa Ho' (2003)
Khan's maturity as an actor continued with a movie where he was once again not the romantic lead. Kind of. Playing the role of an eternally optimist diagnosed with a terminal disease that doesn't at all affect his perfect hair or looks, Khan spend majority of the movie trying to match up the second lead with the heroine. It's a departure for sure, but an effective one. 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' is a tear jerking good time as it's Shah Rukh Khan displaying his usually cliche'd acting talent, but in a role that utilizes it to maximum dramatic impact in the story.
