Fans of Shahrukh Khan's patented lover loverboy image would be in for a shock as he portrayed one of India's greatest Kings in a romanticized fictional account of the historical character in 'Asoka'. While seemingly starting out as a romantic film, the story takes a tragic turn and Khan's portrayal of the king becomes dark as he takes his anger over his lost love out on the world. It was a brutal depiction by Khan of one of the country's revered historical figures. Unfortunately, audiences reacted just as violently to the movie itself.
