Sridevi was one of those actresses whose works will be familiar to even casual audiences who may not have followed her career. She is so embedded into Indian pop culture that it’s hard to shake her influence or impact. If you haven’t seen her films, you’ll have heard a song of hers growing up, or parodies of her songs in other movies, without even realizing it.
Sridevi was an actress that coupled grace and charm seamlessly with innocence and naivety. She could convey more with her expressive eyes than many actresses are unable to with a full line of dialogue.
She also happened to be, and quite possibly will remain one of the only actresses I’ve ever seen with the most impressive sense of comic timing. Often mimicking the mannerisms of Charlie Chaplin, Sridevi sported a brand of self deprecating comedy that is insanely difficult to pull off in a star based industry like Bollywood.
Sridevi has inspired countless others, in the most incredible of ways, due to her unapologetic demeanour, her larger than life depictions on screen, and her completely down to earth ways of screen. From colleagues, and current actors, there’s not many that weren’t touched, directly or indirectly by this legend.
