'JAANE BHI DO YAARO' (1983)
Bollywood isn't known for its dark comedies. The comedy genre of the industry is more relegated to slapstick and cheesy jokes, or the complete opposite with vulgar and crude sex comedies. However, one movie in the 80's was revolutionary for its depiction of satirical content involving serious subject matters.
'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron' saw two unlikely innocent people getting caught up in a scandal of crime and corruption and the hilarious ways in which they deal with it. Featuring a super young Naseeruddin Shah, the movie acts as a commentary on how the average joe almost always ends up being exploited and victimized by the corrupt legal system of India. The film was considered ahead of its time.
Why you should watch it: For audiences that want to see a different Bollywood comedy other than silly expressions and sound effects punctuating every punchline, this film is a must watch for its social commentary, but high level intellectual comedy.
