The Bollywood industry is gaining massive exposure all over the world. To a point where the Box Office numbers for any given film have to take into account the global earnings in order for the movie to be considered a success or a failure. This obviously gives many people outside the built in South Asian audience an opportunity to explore and enjoy the Bollywood cinematic experience.

However, it's difficult to know where to start. So with that in mind, I round up the must watch Bollywood movies of the 1980's.

Note: It is difficult to sum up an entire decade of movies into a short list. There are many (hundreds) of Bollywood movies during the 80's that are deserving of a watch, so this list is by no means a definitive guide.

However, the movies on this list have been chosen to provide a variety of genres, styles and essentially, with something for everyone. They are films that were very significant in developing the current state of the Bollywood industry; looking back on the the debut of a popular and influential star, movies that are the essence of film trends occurring in the industry during that decade, or important movies that are must-watches for any new or old fan of Bollywood.
