A father and mother are pressuring their daughter into an arranged marriage. Upon seeing the daughters distress, the priest begins to tell the family the following story. There was once two widowed sisters, Shanti and Heera, who wished to arrange marriages for their respective children. Shantis daughter Maya was to marry a wealthy man named Chandrakant, and Heeras son Jagat was to wed Chandrakants sister Usha. When Maya was informed that her and Jagats marriages were arranged, she was pleased because she mistakenly believed that she was to wed her cousin Jagat, whom she loved.
