Mocking at religion, flirting with women, in debt with a number of shop-keepers, Raju lives an impoverished lifestyle, and is in love with Lachhi, whose blind Nani does not approve of him. When he finds out that Nanis landlord, Kalwa, is threatening to evict them unless she comes up with Rs.5000/-, he first attempts to borrow money. Failing in this, he steals it from Rana and goes on the run from the police. He boards a train without a ticket and enters a compartment which has a single occupant, Swami Satyanand, who looks exactly like him.
The train has an accident, he takes advantage of this situation, dons the Swamis guise, and subsequently manages to pull wool over the latters devotees - with an agenda of collecting as much cash as possible. He is not aware that Swami has survived the accident, and is being held against his will by Lachhi - and it will not be too long before Rajus past will catch up with him - and he will have to answer for his crimes.
