John Abraham's 'Force' was a pure mindless action movie that still ended up being good enough to be enjoyed. The actor / producer now looks to imitate that success with the sequel which seems to promise just as much, if not more entertainment, but this time, with some substance.
Check out the Trailer for 'Force 2' and read on to find out why I'm excited about it.
'Force' saw John Abraham as a muscle bound street cop for the Mumbai Police Department. Battling crime on the streets, his personal life got mixed up with his professional, resulting in the death of his wife. This is not a Spoiler for 'Force' by the way, as the trailer of the sequel already spoilt the hell out of it.
The original film was successful for a few reasons: The mismatched chemistry between Abraham, and the film's female lead Genelia D'Souza worked very well. Her chatterbox nature mixed well with his strong silent type.
The film also built upon the relationship of the supporting characters, which created stakes for everyone and not just the 'hero'.
However, quite arguably the best thing about 'Force' was the feature film debut of Vidut Jamwal as the antagonist of the film. The actor with skilled martial arts expertise and a comittement to do his own stunts, instantly became a hearthrob for audiences.
The antagonist of 'Force 2' will be played by Tahir Raj Bhasin, who made his own debut in the 2014 Rani Mukherjee starrer 'Mardaani', where he also played the villain. While Jamwal's character provided a physically imposing threat to Abraham's character in the original, seems like Bhasin will provide a more psychological or big-picture threat in 'Force 2'.
Shades of his 'Mardaani' role is featured here as well, as we see scenes of Bhasin's character interacting with Abraham's via the phone.
'Force 2' looks to focus on John Abraham's character, a local city detective, who gets caught up in an international event, and has to join forces with R.A.W., India's Intelligence Agency (akin to that of the C.I.A. in USA) in order to stop whatever plans the bad guy has for world domination / destruction.
Joining the cast of 'Force 2' is Sonakshi Sinha, one of the many actresses in Bollywood whose presence has the least impact to the story of any movie. Sinha has thus far made a career of doing item numbers, cameos or playing the damsel in distress for the hero to save.
Fresh off her recent film 'Naam Hai Akira', Sinha seems to be attempting to revamp that image.
'Naam Hai Akira' showed her in a physically demanding role, performing lots of action sequences that are out of character for a Bollywood actress. She looks to be continuing the trend, as a lot of scenes from the 'Force 2' trailer also see the bubbly beauty kicking butt and taking names. Let's hope this is a positive change for Sinha, as she's continuously been attempting to find her place within Bollywood, beyond just set dressing.
It's incredibly refreshing to see a Bollywood movie sequel that actually has the story continue over from the first film.
While Abraham's character himself refers to events from 'Force', his characterization also seems to have made it through. References to him being a Mumbai Police Officer working for an Indian intelligence organization without the proper qualifications or training, is a running plot point in the trailer.
'Force 2' releases November 18th, 2016.
