Rishi Kapoor in 'Patiala House' (2011)
The most obvious, and probably complicated bad dad on this list has to be Rishi Kapoor's depiction of one in the criminally underrated 'Patiala House'.
Playing a severely strict father, Kapoor's dad was a crusader of South Asian rights in London, at a time when the minority was blatantly discriminated against. Becoming this avenging crusader however, had the unintended result of him becoming almost like a dictator within his own family. More specifically to his own son, played by Akshay Kumar, in one of the most unappreciated performances of his career.

no but really... who would mess with this guy...?
While dreaming of being a cricketer, Kumar bowed to his father's every whim, and became the unintended example of obedience to the rest of his extended family who had unrequited dreams of their own; earning their resentment and disrespect. Kapoor, only partly aware of how others feel about him, plays the most perfect version of a tormenting and cruel emotional warlord. Making decisions for everyone and stepping on everyone's dreams. Kapoor even goes a step beyond the traditional mean parent, to one that actually speaks to his kids and nephews with malice in his heart.
The film further accentuates this with all the characters voicing their emotions about the Dad, without mincing words. So Kapoor's Dad-vibes comes off even worse.
Throughout the film, Kapoor treats everyone, especially Kumar with cruel intentions and bitter-ness. Kapoor is such a horrible Dad, that watching him be mean to people around him, brings back unwanted nostalgia of the dread and anxiety that most South Asian kids used to feel when they were about to get into trouble with their parents.
