'Black Friday' (2004)
The famed director Anurag Kashyap's second film, 'Black Friday' courted a lot of controversy during it's release. But on matters that seems to be founded on legitimate issues.
The film was based on a book, was about the 1993 Bomb Blasts in Mumbai, India, that saw the deaths of 300 people and countless others injured. The film marked the early careers of many, including Kashyap, as well as Kay Kay Menon, Pavan Malhotra, Zakir Hussain, and early appearance by a super young Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
The terrorist on whom the story was based, were still on trial at the time of the film's release. So the film was denied a release, on the basis of swaying public opinion and creating a bias, while the perpetuators were still on trial for the crimes.
Once judgement was passed however, the film was released in India in 2007. However, writer and director Anurag Kashyap has had a lot of issues with the treatment of his film, and himself in the Bollywood Film Industry, based on how 'Black Friday' was received.
'Black Friday' stars Kay Kay Menon, Pavan Malhotra and Aditya Srivastava, directed by Anurag Kashyap.
