'Water' (2005)
Returning with the final part of her Elements Trilogy, Deepak Mehta's 'Water' faced similar issues as her previous film, 'Fire'.
'Water' showcased a discourse on the Hindu tradition that sees a widow's life be relegated to living in an ashram after her husband's death. How a woman whose life was said to have been over by society, is able to find love again.
The film initially starred Mehta's former stars Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das in the lead roles back in 2000. However, prior to the first day of shooting, that production location was attacked by protesters and the sets were destroyed by the same fundamentalists that protested her other film, 'Fire'.
Mehta was able to successfully make the film again in 2003, this time under a false title, in Sri Lanka, under a lot of clock and daggers.
'Water' stars Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray and John Abraham, directed by Deepak Mehta.
