'Sexy Durga' (2017)
The film 'Sexy Durga' got into hot soup simply due to its title. Durga also happens to be the name of a Hindu Goddess, so many religious groups took offence to the title. The film itself was refused certification over the title, as well as many swear words in the film.
The story of 'Sexy Durga' is all set in one night, and shows the (mis)adventures of a couple during a night of hitchhiking. Interestingly, the film had also been shot in one night as well.
After willing changes to the film's title to 'S Durga', the film was admitted into local film festivals, however, only to be denied on the basis that the title submitted was 'S*** Durga', and not 'S Durga', as mentioned earlier.
Director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan sees these petty delays as an attack on his storytelling and themes presented in the film itself, than any issue with the title. As of November 29, 2017 the film has not been approved by the CBFC, and hasn't been screened at any Indian Film Festivals, despite being praised internationally.
'Sexy Durga' stars Rajshri Deshpande, Bilas Nair, Arun Sol and is directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan.
