Rani Mukherji started off as a bubbly and adorable romantic heroine, who since then has gone on to become one of Bollywood's greatest actresses ever. A few yeas ago, Rani attempted a few comebacks that caused a bit of a start and stop in her career. One of these films was the intensely gritty 'Mardaani'.

Playing a senior police officer, Mukherji played a role that is usually essayed by men in the industry; a tough as nails cop that speaks more with her fists, cleaning up the streets of the scum of the earth and speaking the part as well. It was a bold transition for the usually perky and classy actress, and it was just as much of a surprise for fans to see her in a physically dominating presence.

Mukherji did many of her own stunts, kicked ass and even ended the movie on a climactic action scene. And the reality of it all was that it looked great, and not at all out of the ordinary, further raising the question of why more of these movies and roles aren't offered to women in Bollywood.
