'Boxer' (1984)
The first, and possible only true to form boxing movie in Bollywood came in 1984. A loose remake of 'Rocky', 'Boxer' sees a young man (Mithun Chakraborty) living a life of crime out of necessity, find a second calling in Boxing. After being jailed for a petty crime, the man finds purpose in his life with boxing, and pursues it competitively after his release.
'Boxer' is the only one of the films on this list that speaks to the passion for the sport itself. How embarking on such an endeavor can motivate and inspire someone to pursue a better life, as well as give meaning and purpose to one's sense of self.
