'Apne' (2007)
'Apne' featured more of a family friendly spin on the boxing genre. A large extended family of boxers, sees a disgraced boxer trying to reclaim his name in the industry by coaching his own sons to glory. While his youngest son agrees, the elder moves away from it, creating a fractured family dynamic. Until an event causes the older brother to step back into their lives.
'Apne' is not only a boxing movie that's a family affair on screen, but also off-screen as well. The leads are played by real life father Dharmendra, and his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol. The trio gives commendable performances. One would think that a movie with real life family would be painfully happy and cheesy, however, the writer and director infuse enough drama and conflict in the story, using the boxing as a plot device for this family to get closer to one another.
'Apne' did fairly well at the box office, and saw a different spin on the boxing genre within Bollywood.
