'Mary Kom' (2014)
A biographical movie about an Olympic Medal winning woman boxer came in the form of 'Mary Kom', with a leading Bollywood star in the lead role. Priyanka Chopra cemented a lot of her critical acclaim status with this film, that saw her get into physical shape and put herself in (fake) harm's way.
The story sees a young village girl train to become a boxer, to do more with her life, and eventually make it up the ranks of the Boxing league, and end up with Gold Medal opportunity, despite the hardships and politics that got in her way.
'Mary Kom' drew a lot of controversy, given that the real life Kom is a North Indian, which the filmmakers had to replicate in Chopra through the use of prosthetics. The debate raged as to why a genuine North Indian actress was not hired for the role.
Despite those issues however, 'Mary Kom' was appreciated for gritty realism and a great performance by Chopra.
