'Padman' (January 26, 2018)
Akshay Kumar is fast becoming the go-to actor for Bollywood Bio-Pics. His latest is an eccentric true story about the man who introduced low cost feminine sanitary pads in India.
The aptly titled 'Pad Man' puts a superhero spin on the kind of social activism that the real life person has become known for. Writer and Director R. Balki paints the man in a positive light, showcasing his struggles and the social ridicule he experience when even attempting to discuss such a topic at the time.
In true Akshay Kumar fashion, 'Pad Man' seems like a zany and insane topic to center a film around, but the trailer is able to show moments of tension, serious drama, and endearing and light hearted moments that bring joy. It's definitely a topic that may be taken for granted in places outside of India, which makes 'Pad Man' all the more interesting of a film to look out for.
My only concern would be that R. Balki's previous films haven't given much reason to be excited for, but here's hoping his team-up with Kumar will change all that.
