'Kaalakaandi' (January 12, 2018)
Saif Ali Khan returns to the big screen with a genre of film that he is a helluva lot more for than anything else he's done; the black comedy. 'Kaalakaandi' sees an ensemble cast of characters, all dealing with their own issues, colliding on a journey of the insane, ridiculous and interestingly weird.
Sex, greed, crime and all manners of craziness combine to make 'Kaalakaandi', an engaging and riveting must-see of the year!
Khan failed to meet expectations last year with 'Chef', and accordingly, has faced some resistance with the release of 'Kaalakaandi', given his waning box office appeal. However, Khan's best films, in this writer's opinion, has been movies that have strayed rom the beaten path into a genre never usually explored in Bollywood. Films like 'Being Cyrus' and 'Go Goa Gone' are characters and roles that Khan fully gets into, and it the good-ness shows on screen.
Khan is a lot more self aware in roles where he plays an anti-hero or grey character who struggles with his own sense of morality, or has lost it completely, in contrast to playing a typically self assured hero.
'Kaalakaandi' is directed by the writer and Associate Director of another epic dark comedy, 'Delhi Belly'. The film also sees the pairing of two amazing character actors, Vijay Raaz and Deepak Dobriyal, playing off of each others' chemistry.
More than enough reasons to make 'Kaalakandi' one of the most awaited films of January 2018.
