'Mukkabaaz' (January 12, 2018)
When famed auteur filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, known for his unique takes on the crime genre of films within the Indian Industry, decides to take on the boxing film, excitement runs high!
'MukkaBaaz' (Brawler) sees an up and coming State level boxer (Vineet Kumar Singh) prevented from ever getting a shot, due to sort of enmity with local politician, (Jimmy Shergill) and also uncle of the woman he loves. (Zoya Hussein)
This film looks all kinds of incredible. For a filmmaker the equivalent of the Bollywood Quentin Tarantino (reductive, I realize) to take on a boxing movie, a genre that's pretty rare in the industry, it's an exciting time for audiences. The boxing scenes look incredibly authentic and real. And the story, as always, looks riveting.
Zoya Hussein comes of incredibly personable. And I personally hope, that 'MukkaBaaz' is the movie that makes Vineet Kumar Singh a household name! Singh has been making a name for himself with movies like 'Gangs of Wasseypur', 'Ugly', and other Kashyap films. Being the lead of a movie that is as physically demanding as it is emotionally, is a great showcase of Singh's talent. It also doesn't hurt that the role has the plenty of opportunities that makes a conventional leading man; ample shirtless-ness and some major ass kicking!
'Mukkabaaz' could be one of the rare Bollywood movies that deal with the brutality of boxing, anchored by a good story that truly exposes the human spirit, and the pursuit of one's dreams against any obstacles.
